All The World's A Stage...
by Dain Paige
Our boy Dain had two theatre gigs scheduled for the fall – “Mulan, Jr.” with the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati at the Taft Theatre, and “The Sound of Music” with Jersey Productions at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.
Sadly, he found that he couldn’t do “Mulan”. Rehearsals started right as Dain was starting his medication, and the two didn’t mix well. At all. So as hard as it was to do, our boy had to drop out. Susie and Jack were completely lovely about it, even though it meant replacing an actor during rehearsals. And really, how could they replace Dain?
By late fall, early winter, our hero felt well enough to do “The Sound of Music”, playing the role of Max Detweiler… a role he played almost eight years ago at The Kincaid Regional Theatre. And Liz Vosmeier, who played Elsa lo, those many years ago, also reprised her role for this production… it was a lovely time… even with all those kids hanging around all the time. Who let THEM in?
During the production, Artistic Director Larry Smiglewski resigned his position with Jersey Productions. While this was VERY sad news for our hero, he was so glad to be able to do Larry’s last show… Dain was in the very first Jersey Production show (“Godpell”) and oh so many in between. It was a nice book-end to do the last as well.
It was lovely to work with some of the old gang – Liz Vosmeier and Ty Yadzinski (you have to have an odd name to work with Jersey, apparently) and to make some new friends as well. Below are some photos from backstage… note Dain’s truly dreamy wig. It was the “tom boy” cut by Roma-Lee… you can’t get much fancier than that.
